8-153We all ask that same question when we run into friends and acquaintances in the neighborhood. It is the question that keeps us current with the lives of the people we know and love. Well, I get asked the same question about upcoming interior design trends. And you know how I get; I just love to talk about this stuff. So here is what is new in the interior decorating world just for you!

Going green is a trend that is with us to stay. You might even call it a movement. Our planet is a precious resource and we all wish to partake in its preservation for our generation and for those to follow after us. The buzzwords to remember are “renewable” and “recyclable”. Renewable resources can be easily grown again. Recyclable products are those that are reused or repurposed. In terms of your home’s interior design, there are a number of ways you can hop on board and join in this movement. If you are considering wood floors, look for materials that are a renewable natural resource. Bamboo is one such product. It is natural, beautiful and renews itself quickly, making it a very good choice for your home.

Many occupations lend themselves to be worked from home. Cutting down on daily commutes to the office saves energy and reduces pollutants. As a result, home offices are no longer an afterthought. They are carefully planned for function and space optimization while being very chic and stylish. Catalogs abound with desks and chairs that are very fashionable and in a variety of finishes and colors. The office has become a hub for family and office life.

The world has such a far-reaching effect on all aspects of our life including interior design. We are seeing global influences in colors and textures everywhere. The myriad of art and accessories available today represent cultures far and near. It has opened up a whole new “world “to us. Want to try some of this? It is easy! Just take a look at furnishing and accessory stores and obtain items rich in colors, textures and materials. Open yourself to consider other styles and designs and you will be pleasantly surprised.

We are seeing a growth of urban areas as cities are revitalizing and refurbishing neighborhoods. The population that is moving in there is creating a lifestyle trend that is influencing interior design. It is a clean, uncluttered look that is a mix of styles adaptable to all of us. A tailored, modernistic flanked by a pair of vintage flea-market end tables is indicative of this trend. A mixture of what is old and what is new in a pared down arrangement signifies urban style. Consignment shops and flea markets are great sources for achieving this look for yourself.

In this mixed bag of home design trends, there is something for everyone of us. Which one is for you?
